Short, because there is not much to say. Using Rain Cleaner means accepting what is written here.

### The licence

Rain Cleaner is free to use, at home and at work, on as many machines as you like. No account, no registration, no subscription. Pro is not on sale yet; when it is, it will be paid for actions and scale, and the free version will keep telling the whole truth.
The program is not open source. You get the right to run it, not to the code behind it.

### No warranty

The program is provided as it is. It changes things on a computer: it deletes files you have chosen, it installs drivers through Windows Update, it changes priorities and power settings. Every one of those is explained beforehand and can be undone, and driver installs are preceded by a restore point and a copy of the driver store.
Even so, no software can promise that nothing will ever go wrong. Keep backups of anything you would not want to lose. To the extent the law allows, the author is not liable for damage or lost data arising from use of the program.

### What you may not do with it

Do not sell it. Do not repackage it with other software, and do not distribute it through a download wrapper or an installer that adds anything of its own. Do not present it as your own product, and do not remove the publisher's name.
This is not lawyer's caution — it is the whole point. A program whose promise is that it hides nothing cannot be handed to people inside something that does.

### The protection is not an antivirus

It watches and records; it is not a wall. A program in user mode cannot sit between another process and the disk; that needs a signed filesystem driver. It watches, it records in a way that makes quiet deletion visible, and it answers in steps it can explain. It does not claim to stop every attack, and it is not a substitute for a virus scanner or for backups.

### There is no code signature yet

Windows will show "unknown publisher" when you run the installer, because the file is not signed with a certificate. That warning is accurate: it means Windows cannot confirm who published the file. If you would rather not click through it, take the portable version, which needs no installer.
The checksum of every release is published, so you can confirm you got the file we built.

### Changes to these terms

If they change, the date below changes with them, and the previous wording stays in the changelog.
