## What Rain Cleaner can change

- **Cleanup** — reads: Sizes of temp folders, Windows Update download cache, Delivery Optimization, setup logs, crash dumps, thumbnail and browser caches, Windows.old, Recycle Bin; may change: Deletes files inside those folders only. A fixed list of allowed folders is enforced right before every delete.; asks first: Yes — you pick the items; undo: No. Deleted cache files are gone (Windows and browsers rebuild them).
- **Startup programs** — reads: The same startup lists Task Manager shows; may change: Switches an entry off or on the way Task Manager does, with the approval flag. Nothing is deleted.; asks first: Yes; undo: Yes — switch it back here or in Task Manager
- **Drivers** — reads: Installed drivers and what Windows Update offers for your hardware; may change: Installs drivers from Microsoft’s Windows Update catalogue only. Makes a restore point and exports the current drivers first; if neither works, nothing is installed.; asks first: Yes; undo: Yes — roll back to the restore point or the exported drivers
- **DNS** — reads: Your current DNS server and the response times of Cloudflare, Google, Quad9, OpenDNS and AdGuard; may change: Switches the network adapter to the DNS server you choose.; asks first: Yes; undo: Yes — the previous DNS is kept and can be restored
- **Game Booster** — reads: Running processes and the power plan; may change: For the session only: game priority up, a short list of background programs eased off, High performance power plan, GPU preference for the game.; asks first: Yes — you press Boost; undo: Yes — ends with the session, and is restored on the next start after a crash or power cut
- **Offline rescue** — reads: Network devices without a working driver; may change: Reinstalls network drivers already on the PC, through Microsoft’s pnputil, when there is no internet.; asks first: Yes; undo: Partly — drivers are exported before changes
- **Ransomware shield** — reads: Hidden bait files in your user folders and who writes to them; may change: On signs of encryption it can take a shadow copy and, if you allowed it, stop the process that is doing the writing. ## What Rain Cleaner will never do

- Clean the registry. There is no registry cleaner and there will not be one.
- Show a “free RAM” button. The booster eases off background programs during a game; it makes no memory-cleaner claims.
- Promise “300% faster” or any number it did not measure on your PC.
- Bundle other software, toolbars or offers.
- Install drivers from anywhere but Microsoft’s catalogue.
- Touch Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Videos, Music, Downloads or any personal file.
- Mine crypto, sell data or share what is on your PC.
- Invent threats or inflate numbers to scare you into buying.
- Do something risky without asking you first.

## Privacy and network

Rain Cleaner has no telemetry and no analytics. Your scans, history and settings stay on your PC. These are all the servers it contacts:

- raincleaner.eu/v1/version: Update check, at most once a day — Nothing but the request itself (Can be turned off in Settings)
- raincleaner.eu/v1/activate, /release, /portal: Pro licence — Your licence key and a machine ID (a SHA-256 hash, see below) (Only for Pro)
- Windows Update (Microsoft): Finding and downloading drivers — What Windows sends to Windows Update (Only when you search for drivers)
- 1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.8, 9.9.9.9, 208.67.222.222, 94.140.14.14: DNS speed test — Five lookups of public names (google.com, microsoft.com…) (Only when you run the network test)
- Stripe checkout (in your browser): Buying Pro — What you type on Stripe’s page; card data never reaches us (Only when you buy)

Machine ID: a SHA-256 hash of the Windows MachineGuid, the system drive size and the PC name, cut to 32 characters. It lets a licence work on the same PC after a reinstall. It cannot be turned back into any of those values.

## Recovery and what can be undone

- ✓ Drivers — restore point plus an export in ProgramData\RainCleaner\driver-backups
- ✓ Startup entries — switch them back on
- ✓ DNS — the previous server is recorded
- ✓ Game Booster — every change is written before it is made and restored when the session ends
- ✓ Files hit by ransomware — from the shadow copy, if the shield made one
- ✓ Pro: Undo Anything reverses entries in the history that have an undo step
- ✗ Deleted temp and cache files
- ✗ An emptied Recycle Bin
- ✗ A removed Windows.old folder (you can no longer go back to the previous Windows)
- ✗ An uninstalled program (reinstall it)
